madeleine mccann; publications of interest

the case of madeleine mccann has in its 17 years produced many books, videos and other material.

many are easier to find than others, links can be all over the place, so they work fine and so they do no longer.
so it is always nice to put at least the full title out and a name of a writer. what makes searching to find it again is a bit easier.
this is not meant for newspaper articles.

the first material what is a must read for all who want to gather a better insight in this case are of course the pj files.

they have been published in the summer on 2008. these are the official police files, that in portugal by law have to be made free to access, normally that means you have to ask for it politely at a register, but because of the massive interest these files been made public by copies on a disk. the only problem for a large segment of the world population is they are of course in portuguese.

so as soon as they been available a group of people with knowledge of portuguese and english languages started to translate then to english, not all, but most of what you want to know is done. they are free to view and use by the public.
this group of people did it all for free.

it is well known that the uk government put a lot of effort in this case from day 1; may 3, 2007.

there is a informative report made, or better a police manual about their police work in the first year of the portuguese information, the police manual that resulted from what was called operation task is made public some years ago.

the above manual is not the report that was made by jim gamble or graham hill, both claim the authorship to their name, that supposedly led to operation grange, that report it still secret to the public, but is at times made available to authors from abroad and news outlets. it must been written between 2009 and 2011.

in the summer of 2008 goncalo amaral left the pj, he was the coordination officer of the pj in the first portuguese investigation in the case of madeleine mccann. shortly after he decided to publish a book with the history of that investigation.

the original title is; a verdade da mentira

it is translated in many languages, like dutch, german, french.

there is no official english translation on the market, but there is an unofficial one made, it is in circulation over the internet, for free. it often is offered in english through online sellers, but they simply dump the same translation you can read for free.

this book landed amaral in a juridical conflict with the parents gerry and kate mccann, what in the first round was to their advantage, but all other rounds after it, including the one for the european courts respected amaral his freedom of expression.

still no publisher ever dared to publish an official english translation.

the dutch translation is never been taken from the market, it was always to find in a online selling company.
the german translation was said also of the market during the court cases. unknown why, because it only reflected on portuguese soil.

amaral wrote more books, there is a second one, a mordaca inglesa, what translates into; the english gag for an english title, but also never was published in english. it is a lesser known book. and hard to find parts that are translated.

there is a machine translation to english in circulation for free, but it is of very low quality, it does no honour to the writer. it is informative, but unusable for citation, or used as fact sadly. it also has a lot of double copied translated text, so it is easy to get lost in it.

when nigel no longer felt able to keep it up, and wanted to close his website, all his work found a place on the gerrymccannbloggs website. blogs, media articles from the beginning, and much more most is still there.

Mark Saunokonoko leaves me cold, apart from anything else I've always been curious to know what particular interest this case is to a broadcaster from across the other side of the world. It's not as though there is any local interest apart from perhaps that infamous visit by the former British government media monitoring guru, Clarence Mitchell, some years ago - that appeared to be yet another public relations exercise and a big 'look at me' campaign. Nothing there to see!

So back to Saunokonoko - why? Not that I see any problem with him personally as a news presenter, it's more the online company he keeps that concerns me. Individuals that have spanned the years following this case, not as noteworthy interested parities with attention to detail but more nosy parkers with nothing more to offer than a detached view of anything and everything - even to the point of claiming internal knowledge based only on place of birth.

Well I was born and bred in England but that doesn't give me any authority to speak of the unknown!

Personally I see the likes of Saunokonoko as a nuisance rather than an advantage when dabbling with the case of a missing three year old British child. I'd sooner use fact as far as it's known as the major source of information rather than some disconnected newsreader from the Antipodes, carrying forward the diverse opinions of a range of social media devotees.

publications of interest is not a seal of quality of course, otherwise it will be a pretty empty topic at best, for me it is a nice getting together of all odd things in the aftermath, and keeping yourself 'unsided' is something the media in this case usually can't be.

new myths born, old ones reborn. the change in position, so it has a bit of everything. choosing the levy guy as source of information at the beginning of the episode about dna is nothing different than stupid and maybe just hook the first fish that bites. levy was a mythe machine.
and a great example how the nobodies of this world used this case to their own liking.

and it is easy to find it back on here for me, there wil be many more stories in this collection that can do with a bit of extra attention, or have useful parts.

it is at least one that is not written out of a already standing opinion, as usually is the case. and that in itself makes it quite rare.
there are many books written, but all to tell you from an already set opinion. what makes it hard to make use of.

no worries the spread of media attention in the world and how strange and/or hard to understand that often is, will be part of the two sided stories. just like pr guru's, madeleine as object in dissertations and other works that cannot meet any quality to be called science.
